The Nagaland Fisheries Technical Association hold its 20th general session at the conference hall, DUDA Guest House, Kohima today, which also saw the release of the Association constitution (1st amendment 2014) by Kevisa Kense, Director of Fisheries and Senior Advisor, NFTA.
Addressing the members, Kevisa Kense said NFTA has achieved a lot despite fund constraints, and has faced many problems and struggled a lot in the past, however, maintained that it still has miles to go and lots to do.
Also noting its failure to achieve its goals and targets due to meagre funds, Kense has assured that in the coming years the association will be provided with ample funds to carry on the projects that they have envisioned.
While seeking the support and cooperation of all in the districts, the director pointed out in outright that only the performing district establishment will be provided with better facilities and funds, and the other less performing establishment will received less funds and facilities. Therefore, he has asked all the DFOs to be sincere and dedicated while executing their duty.
For any kind of projects that is being put up, Kense has asked the concerned district DFOs to properly verify the project spot and also study the viability of the project, only then, he asserted that funds should be utilized judiciously as and when it is sanctioned. ‘Money should not just be drained’ added the director.
At the same time, he has requested all concerned members to uphold the name and integrity of the department and to carry out its activities with all sincerity and dedication, so that the existence of the department is known through the integrity and dedication of all the staffs.
Meanwhile the NFTA with its motto ‘enhancing productivity through technology’ has resolved that the fishery professionals will bring about sustainable fisheries development in the state through the interventions of research, science and technology and shoulder to achieve self sustenance in fish production by enhancing productivity, promoting innovation, and engaging rural human resources directly through integral capacity-building.
NFTA, it said will also positively contribute towards improving livelihoods thus ushering in economic development towards achieving food security for the state populace. It would continue to strive to create a professional work environment by infusing technical personnel with a strong work ethic, holding to high standards, modelling dedication and maintaining an atmosphere of cordiality and respect, and promised to maintain full transparency and accountability in all service related matters and in the implementation of departmental programmes for the larger interest of the public.
The formal session chaired by Yhunsenlo Kent, President NFTA was followed by discussion and nomination of new office bearers by Ketusielie Angami, Convenor, Nomination Committee.
