Dimapur, Aug. 8 (EMN): "We are not doing justice to our responsibilities if we (village council and VDBs) don't perform our assignments with sincerity," said the Deputy Commissioner Wokha Dr. Manazir Jeelani Samoon. Therefore, he urged them to act as per the guideline of the programmes and schemes so that the village will witness development.
Dr. Samoon was speaking as the special guest at the workshop organised for the village council chairmen and village development board on Aug. 8, by the department of Rural Development Agency (DRDA) Wokha.
A DIPR news bulletin, while updating about the workshop, informed that the Dr. Samoon, exhorted the audience about their duties and responsibilities.
Saying that the district will fail to see development unless schemes are monitored, Dr. Samoon warned that 'from now on', schemes will be seriously monitored.
Besides, while pointing out that the government is providing and introducing many programmes to uplift the living standards of the community, Dr. Samoon appealed the villagers to extend their cooperation to the department and the village functionaries so that change can be brought about in the right manner. Moreover, while maintaining that responsibilities lie with the villagers, Dr Samoon appealed for keeping aside 'party lines' while selecting the 'VCC and VDBs' and appoint the best leader.
The Wokha deputy commissioner also gave a brief history as to how communitisation was conceptualised with an aim for proper implementation of schemes and programmes and utilization of funds to bring about development in the village. In this regard, he called for a retrospection into whether communitisation has benefitted the Wokha district or not, and also the need for strengthening of the VCC and VDBs activities for prosperity of the district.
Meanwhile, the DIPR reported that the DRDA Project Director, Thungdeno Mozhui, while giving the key note address, highlighted about the various activities, programmes and schemes undertaken by the department in the district.
BDO, RD Block Changpang enlightened the participants on PMAY and said that the programme was launched in 2016; however, he lamented that till date identification of beneficiaries has not been completed. In this regard, he urged the VDBs to work in coordination with the concern officials for proper implementation of the programme.
During the function, Assistant Programme Coordinator, DRDA presented on the topic MIS, Geotag and DBT; BDO, RD Block Ralan, Ekonthung stressed on the necessity of having Aadhaar card.
Block Programme Manager, RD Block Wokha Nzanbemo presented on NRLM, while BDO, RD Block Tsenlumi Murry highlighted on grant-in-aid.
Short speeches were delivered by Chairman Wokha District Village Council Chairman Association and President Wokha District Village Development Board Association, the DIPR bulletin reported.
