Dimapur, Nov. 20:Nsong village council in Peren district has informed that no heavy vehicle will be allowed to ply over the bridges of Heramjambak and Nguiki rivers in Nsong with immediate effect. The council has also urged the authority in concern to repair the bridges at the earliest as they are the only means connecting Nsong with other parts of Nagaland.
The chairman of the village council, Ramkie told Eastern Mirror that the bridges are in need of repair, for which the council had decided to stop heavy vehicles (size of bus and trucks) from plying over the bridges to avoid any casualties. He added that once the bridges are repaired and fit for transportation, the council will give further information.
Ramkie said that engineers from Public Works Department (Roads & Bridges), Nagaland had inspected the bridge, during which they expressed concern that allowing heavy vehicles will further damage the bridges.
The engineers also said even small vehicles with heavy load should be pre-empted from crossing the bridges.
“The engineers had inspected the bridges. They said that there is no scheme under the state government at the moment to help repair the bridges but they promised to approach the central government to ask for financial assistance,” the chairman said.
Stating that crossing the bridges is the only means to bring goods from big towns, including Peren, Jalukie, and Dimapur, the chairman has informed that commercial vehicles bringing goods to the village would be granted access in unavoidable circumstances; however, he added that no trucks carrying wooden logs or lumber would be allowed to ply over the bridges in no
circumstances.
