Dimapur, May 20 (EMN): A seminar to promote conservation and protection of forest and wildlife was organised by the Wildlife division of Dimapur district, on May 18 at Mpai village, in Peren district.
Gaon Burah, village council members and members of the area's community reserve committee attended the event, updates stated.
The establishment of the Dimapur Wildlife division issued a press release on Monday informing about the programme.
Wildlife warden for the Dimapur Wildlife division Tokaho H Kinimi addressed the event. He lauded the efforts of the village's community in declaring their forest land a community reserve for protection and preservation of forests and wildlife.
The officer highlighted how the planet had lost many species of wildlife, the press release stated. In the next 50 years, he said, many more species of amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals will face the risk of extinction due to habitat loss, illegal trade in wildlife, overexploitation of natural resources and Climate Change.
Kinimi appealed to the people to cooperate and work with the department for protection, preservation and management of forests and wildlife, the update stated.
A village leader, unnamed in the press release, was also stated to have thanked the department and the government for recognition of the community reserve forest there.
"He said that the villagers have been protecting and preserving their forests and wildlife over the last 10-15 years and assured the department of fullest support, cooperation towards protection, preservation and conservation of forests and wildlife in their jurisdiction," the programme updates stated.
A short documentary on wildlife conservation “Nagaland is changing but….” was shown to the participants, the organisers informed.
