Dimapur, July 26 (EMN): With the primary objective to maintain peace in the society and to resolve issues by putting forward its ideas towards peaceful resolution, public of Peren town have decided to form a Peace Forum.
The decision to form Peace Forum in Peren town taken during the 4th consultative meeting initiated by Peace Channel Peren Chapter on July 22 held at Grace Complex, Peren Town Baptist Church campus.
Taku Longkumer, president of People’s Forum for Peace, Dimapur, who was the resource person of the consultative meet, explained the concept, objectives and functions of Peace Forum. He also expounded on the concept of peace among the elders and the leaders in the society, adding that peace lovers should be sincere and neutral.
“We cannot bow down to any of the party to make peace, we cannot be one-sided,” he asserted. Stating that discussion and dialogue are important parts of resolving conflict and not through violence, he said peace is a gradual process which takes time and can be achieved by coming together for peaceful co-existence.
Mmhathung David, Project Coordinator of Peace Channel, also augmented on the concept of the Peace Forum. He said that the Peace Forum is an inclusive forum with no hidden agendas. He said Peace Channel will be capacitating the members of the Peace Forum on dialogue and mediation to help the Forum resolve conflict in a peaceful manner.
There was an open discussion initiated by Haiku Nza, convener of organising committee. Many leaders from different background expressed their views concerning the formation of the Peace Forum.
Subsequently, the house unanimously decided to form the Peace Forum in Peren town. A Search Committee was also formed to appoint and select the executives in order to carry out necessary measures for functioning of the Peace Forum.
The meeting began with an invocation said by Dr. Hiazuheing Ndang, pastor of Police Baptist Church. P David Ndang, Peace Channel coordinator (Peren), delivered the welcome address, while the vote of thanks was pronounced by Dr. Zieleigai Ndang and benediction by Heukoriang, pastor of CRC.
The programme was attended by leaders from various churches, institutions, organisations, social activists and public leaders.
