Dimapur, March 19 (EMN): National tobacco Control Programme (NTCP) organised one-day orientation cum training programme for law enforcement agency, on March 17 at Additional Deputy Commissioner’s Conference hall Peren town, with SDO (Civil) Peren, Sarita Yadav, as guest of honour.
The orientation cum training was held in pursuance of the resolution adopted by the District level Coordination Committee (DLCC) on March 6.
CMO Peren, Dr. Ngangshimeren, who is also the vice chairman of DLCC, NTCP Peren, highlighted the gathering with the magnitude of problem caused by the use of tobacco in various forms both at global, national, and local level. He also acknowledged the tireless efforts of NTCP division Peren and the progress made so far in implementing the programme in the district.
He said all the training particpants were expected to equipped with the detail information of the programme and efficiently enforce the Act to bring about a change in the district.
Emphasizing on the condition and menace of tobacco use in the state, guest of honour said that use of tobacco and its products is found to be very common among the general population in the State. Therefore, Sarita said we must strengthen the hands of the concerned department and the law enforcing agencies and work together to curb this menace.
The keynote address was presented by Dr. Sabino Kuotsu, Nodal officer NTCP through power point presentation on COTPA (Cigarettes and other Tobacco Products Prohibition Act 2003).
In an interaction session, the house adopted the resolution to conduct similar programme in all the block headquarters and constitute a law enforcement squad that will suit the need of each of the blocks.
The session concluded with vote of thanks proposed by Hoineichin Singson, social worker NTCP, with a quote from Mother Teresa, “We cannot do great things on this earth only small thing with great love”.
The training was attended by administrative officers from various sub-divisions of Peren district, police officers from various sub-division, Food Safety officer Peren, and dobashis of Peren town.
