Peren District Inter-Club Cricket Tournament 2026 commences at Jalukie GHSS ground with five teams competing.
DIMAPUR — The Peren District Inter-Club Cricket Tournament 2026 commenced at the Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) ground in Jalukie town on Monday.
Organised by the Peren District Cricket Association (PDCA) in collaboration with the Assam Rifles under the aegis of the Nagaland Cricket Association, the tournament marks its return after a three-year gap, with five teams from across the district taking part.
According to an update, the tournament aims to give local cricketers, especially young players, an opportunity to gain match experience and build interest in the sport.
The opening ceremony was attended by PDCA President Kengim Hegui; Colonel Mohit Kumar Bansal, Commanding Officer of Assam Rifles; Major Anupam Mishra; and Major Abhishek Sharma, along with local representatives, cricket enthusiasts, and Assam Rifles personnel.
Seven matches will be played in the 50-overs format, with the top two teams from the group stage advancing to the final on September 19.
Speaking on the occasion, Hegui urged the district's youth and well-wishers to support the matches, noting that cricket offers a viable career path for Naga players, with the BCCI-affiliated Nagaland Cricket Association having produced several players who have gone on to represent the state.
In the inaugural match, Daring Ninth CC defeated DLB XI by six wickets in a rain-curtailed 20-over contest. Chasing 169 for 8, Daring Ninth reached the target led by Dipankar Das’s 49 off 20 balls, while Iakaho Sumi took 3 for 22 to seal the win.
