Dimapur, June 9 (EMN): As part of the union activities, Peletkie Students' Union (PSU) organised a plantation drive at its reserved forest in Peletkie village under Peren district on June 8 on the theme "One student, one tree."
The plantation drive was undertaken as part of its golden jubilee resolution to protect the environment and restore the deteriorating environment, which has become a threat to human existence due to deforestation and other human activities. It was initiated to sensitise villagers on the importance of environment protection which would be a boon to the villagers in particular and the Nagas in general.
Various species of tree saplings like hollock, neem, stingky beans, Sonari, cherry, two species of pine etc were planted in the students' reserved forest. The reserved forest was donated by the Peletkie village council on the request of the union to maintain reserved forest in the village for conservation of natural resources and protection of environment.
Tree saplings were provided by Peren and Jalukie forest range offices.
The plantation drive began with a prayer said by the president of youth department of Peletkie Baptist Church. President of Peletkie village youth organisation also participated in the plantation drive.
