Dimapur, Feb. 27 (EMN): Polling in 14 Southern Angami - 1 assembly constituency passed off peacefully without report of any untoward incident on February 27.
The constituency consisted of 20 polling stations with around thirteen thousand voters. Four candidates namely Vikho-o Yhoshü from NDPP, Khrielezo Bio from NPF, Medokul Sophie from NPP and Nagakul Tase from INC are contesting from the 14 Southern Angami - 1 AC.
Vikho-o Yhoshü and Khrielezo Bio along with their lady wives were the first to cast their votes at 7 Kigwema, MH Upper polling station. Medokul Sophie and Nagakul Tase also casted their votes from Jakhama Middle Panchayat Hall polling station.
Among the voters was Vilhelie Kere (23 years old), a Person with Disability (PwDs) from Kigwema village who also exercised his franchise. A villager who was present nearby to cast his vote narrated how Vilhelie, despite his disability, is a skilled carpenter and takes care of his parents and siblings.
The GHS Jakhama town in 14 Southern Angami -1 was manned by all women presiding officials and security personnel. The purpose of having an all women team was to encourage women participation in the electoral process.
Video surveillance were fixed in all the polling stations and facilities like chairs, drinking water, waiting shed, toilets and wheel chairs for PwDs were also provided for the voters. Young, old and differently abled actively participated in the electoral process.
