Dimapur, Oct. 7: A local peace advocator that operates under the banner ‘Peace Channel,’ conducted a capacity building programme at Sacred Heart High School, on October 6 at Khuzama in Kohima.
The programme was conducted on the topic “peace and dialogue,” which aimed at empowering students on the skills needed for peace building and also to resolve conflict through dialogue process.
Speaking to
Eastern Mirror over telephone, the member of the capacity-building advocacy Alino S Chishi said that the programme was an ongoing initiative taken by Peace Channel to foster peace in the minds of young students so that they would grow up to be peace loving citizens.
Emphasising that peace was one of the most essential requirements for humanity, Chishi urged the students to play major role in peace building process by intervening in conflict situations as mediators and resolve issues between conflicting parties through the process of dialogue.
“Dialogue can defuse tension and prevent conflict situation from escalating and promote reconciliation in the aftermath of conflict,” the peace activist stated.
Admitting that conflicts are inevitable in life, Chishi said that mediation and dialogue have become important tools to elevate relationships and promote peace. “Peace and dialogue go hand in hand as dialogue is the most effective tool for preventing and resolving conflict and societal transformation.
She encouraged the students to practice and promote peace in within the family, peer group, and institution through dialogue and mediation to promote long term stability and justice.
