Dimapur, March 17 (EMN): Peace Channel, a local youth resource group, organised a training programme on subjects themed on the ‘concept of peace and peace building,’ at Trinity High School in Thahekhu village in Dimapur on March 17.
Altogether 50 students along with the peace animators of Trinity High School, Thahekhu, teacher in-charge and four teacher trainees from Bosco B.Ed College actively participated in the session.
Addressing to the peace club members, peace activist Patrick W Tungoe stated that peace is an occurrence of harmony characterised by the lack of violence, conflict and the freedom from fear of violence. He stated that peace building is a process where the youth can facilitate the establishment of durable peace and prevents the recurrence of violence by addressing the root cause and effects of conflict through reconciliation and strengthening the society’s capacity to manage conflict in non-violent ways for a positive change.
He further elucidated that collective effort is important to promote peace in the society. He added that youth can intervene conflict situation at the right time by preventing and defusing the arising or future conflict and promoting sustainable peace. He also challenged the students to take peace as their daily responsibilities and promote peace with self, people and nature.
Angukali Chishi, Peace Channel Dimapur district coordinator, led in the ice breaking session. The session concluded with a group discussion.
Some of the participants shared that to promote peace and harmonious living in the society, one have to achieve peace within oneself and quoted Mahatma Gandhi who once said: “Be the change that you wish to see in the world.”
