Dimapur, Aug. 6 (EMN): All the legislators and party functionaries of the People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) appointed to various positions in the Nagaland government have pledged to donate a month’s salary each to the relief fund set up for the recent calamities inflicted by monsoon rains on the state.
In a statement that was issued on Monday, the PDA informed that the decision was taken at an emergency meeting that was held in Dimapur. The rank and file of the PDA parties was appealed to make voluntary contributions to the relief fund.
The alliance expressed condolence with the families who lost members; and concern with those undergoing difficulties due to floods, landslides and sinking zones caused by heavy rains. It appreciated the state’s government and non-governmental agencies ‘for being alert to the situation and contributing towards prevalence of normality despite a crisis like situation and ensuring sufficient stock of all essential commodities throughout the state.’
The PDA also expressed appreciation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for assisting and for deputing the minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju , who after his visit assured “fullest assistance” to Nagaland.
It informed that the alliance had formed coordination committees comprising presidents of the PDA parties at the district level. “These PDA committees will have coordination meetings and also meet with the district administration in order to extend any assistance and logistics if necessary for carrying out relief and rehabilitation. The committees will also furnish information of any damages, calamities or difficulties being faced by the people to the respective district administrations for follow up actions.”
The PDA has also urged the citizens of the state to extend help to the various departments and agencies that are working to easing the suffering being faced by the people.
Acharya donates INR one lakh
The governor of Nagaland, PB Acharya, donated INR one lakh from his salary to the chief minister’s relief fund on Monday. It was in aid of the people affected by damage that was caused during the recent monsoon downpour.
The Raj Bhavan issued a statement containing an appeal from the governor to all the citizens to ‘donate generously’ to the fund. “He also appealed to the people to stand in solidarity with the distressed affected people in the state and be part of the effort to support them in this hour of crisis,” the statement read.
It also informed that the governor, with help from the Assam Rifles, could arrange food supplies like rice, lentils, refined oil, sugar, canned milk and tea leaves to be delivered to Kiphire district. The district’s administration will distribute the food items “among the neediest,” it informed.
