DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 19: Home Minister of Nagaland Y Patton has called for educational institutions to be centres of development of not only academic performance but where students come to learn good moral character.
Addressing the 69th annual day celebrations of SD Jain Higher Secondary School Wednesday morning, Patton said that education was not just the level of information that is put into a child’s brain ‘undigested, unrelated, and unassimilated.’
The very essence of education, according to him, is the ‘concentration of mind and not mere collection of fact.’

That is besides a 4 state-level toppers in the Higher Secondary School Leaving Examinations since the establishment of the institution in 1947.
The minister expressed happiness that the school had been equipped with modern facilities ‘backed by dedicated teaching faculties to impart not only quality education but also understanding the need for effective skills development, discipline, character building.

In his advice to the students, Patton called student-life the most important stage where they have to take things seriously and meaningfully so as to achieve their aim in life. He called upon the students to set targets, be focused and to strive for excellence. While reminding them that mediocrity has no place in the modern arena of competition, Patton encouraged them to work diligently to achieve success in life.
“Remember there are no substitute to hard work and no short cut to success,” Patton pointed out. Students are privileged to be studying in a he school that was not only result-oriented but also gave more stress to ‘practical education,’ he said. That, he said, is the need of the day. He advised the students to show integrity and a good image of the school through hard work and performance.
The minister also gave away awards to meritorious students of the school. He also announced incentives for HSLC and HSSLC toppers.
