Dimapur, May 28 (EMN): Following reports of increasing number of Covid-19 positive cases in Assam, the deputy chief minister of Nagaland and leader of BJP legislature party, Y Patton, has ordered sealing of check gates bordering the neighbouring district.
Patton has particularly ordered sealing of Bhandari check gate in Wokha district as it is located in close proximity with Merapani in Assam, which is a hotbed of Covid-19. He also directed the deputy commissioner of Wokha to immediately recall the officers serving under Wokha district and were out of station without proper leave and cautioned that stern action would be initiated against erring officials.
Patton, who is also the minister in-charge of Wokha district for Covid-19, stated this during a co-ordination meeting with the officials from district administration, medical and frontline workers at Wokha town on May 28. He was accompanied by the advisor of Horticulture and Border Affairs, Mhathung Yanthan.
While lauding the consistent and dedicated efforts of all the concerned towards prevention of Covid-19, Patton encouraged them to put in more effort as positive cases were already reported in Nagaland. He also appealed to the people of Wokha district not to panic but to co-operate with the district Covid-19 taskforce in case of any eventualities.
Later during a meeting with civil society organisations, including the Lotha Hoho, Lotha Students' Union, Lotha Youth Hoho and Lotha Eloe Hoho, Patton appealed to put aside all differences and collectively fight the Covid-19 pandemic.
He informed that the government is putting in all possible effort to facilitate in containing the spread of the virus in the entire district. He also called upon the civil society to be more supportive and co-ordinate on common problems pertaining to social welfare.
He further extended financial assistance to all the CSOs concerned and the party to meet unforeseen expenses related to Covid-19.
