Congratulating the founding members, pioneers and all those
who have contributed to the Old Changsu Students' Union, Patton expressed hope
that the jubilee would bring peace within the community and produce students
with character and values, who would go on to become responsible leaders in
society in the years to come.
- Patton emphasised that the platinum jubilee serves as a catalyst
for cultivating strong leadership and fostering successful individuals and
intellectuals within the community. Sharing a personal anecdote about his past
association and experience with the elders and pioneers of the village and
former student leaders, he urged the students to emulate the good deeds and
examples set by those leaders to become responsible members of society.
- Earlier, Patton unveiled the monolith and hoisted the OCSU
flag, while the monolith was dedicated by Rev. Dr. Nzan Odyuo, principal of
Golden Crown Theological College, Dimapur.
- The theme speaker, Dr. Apeni Lotha, retired director of
Higher Education, spoke on “Pruning for excellence,” wherein she encouraged the
congregation to foster education and skills among the upcoming generation and
to act responsibly in bridging the gap.
- Short speeches were delivered by the president of Lotha
Students' Union (LSU), Lirhonthung Kithan; president of Englan Range Students’
Union (ERSU), Chonbernthung; and chairman of Old Changsu Village Council,
Elithung Ngullie.
- Eyingbemo N Shitiri, president of OCU, delivered the welcome
address, while L Thungpen Lotha, convenor of the jubilee planning committee,
delivered short speech and Ekyimo Odyuo, former president of OCSU (1977-1978),
