Dimapur, March 27 (EMN): A three-day workshop on audio-visual communication organised by the department of mass communication, Patkai Christian College (PCC), concluded here on March 27.
Independent filmmaker from Arunachal Pradesh, Tai Gungte, and award winning actor, Solomon Sangchoju, imparted the training as visiting faculties to the students of mass communication.
PCC vice principal, Angel Sonari, on the inaugural day welcomed the guests and exhorted the students to avail the best from the workshop. Stating that the state is battling the issue of unemployment, the vice principal called upon the youth to explore avenues in entrepreneurship and not just limit themselves to government sectors.
Visiting faculty, Gungte put on record that the Northeastern people are talented and that all they need is a platform to grow in the creative field. While narrating the challenges he faced as an independent filmmaker, Gungte stated that the entertainment industry has the potential to be a major employment generator in the region.
He further stated that apart from Assam and Manipur, other states in the region are not following a regular filmmaking tradition, adding that the region has a treasure of rich and original content that a filmmaker can document.
Sangchoju, speaking on the occasion, urged the students to be passionate in order to get into the creative line. Speaking on the scope, he said the region needs skilled force in the film industry which can be met only when young people come forward to explore the opportunities.
The objective of the workshop was to introduce to the students the foundations of photography and film craft. Keeping in view the emerging trends in the course curriculum, the three-day workshop had the students experiment with SLR and DSLR cameras, drone functions and use, action cameras, fashion photography, live demonstration of camera use and acting etc. The students as part of the workshop in groups made films without cuts.
On the concluding day, HoD, Dr. Dakter Esse thanked the resource persons and informed that the department in collaboration with National Tobacco Control Programme is working on ‘Anti-tobacco campaign’ project for the state of Nagaland.
Gungte, to his disposal, has two feature films and state award winning film on Swachch Bharat Abhiyaan. He has been into fashion photography for five years and worked with Glad Rags Mr International India Pratik Jain, Opang Jamir, Rewatti Chettry, Chum Darrang. He has also been associated with Northeast calendar models. He is the former president of Film Federation of Arunachal.
Sangchoju had acted in short films like ‘Into the valley,’ ‘Man on scooter’- both winner of Laissez Faire Film Festival in 2016 and 2017 respectively. He has many other state winning films like ‘Orunasol Man,’ ‘EK Kendra,’ ‘The Win,’ ‘Mann se Swachch’ to his disposal.
