Who the hell does not know what is Kohima Raj Bhavan? Who does not know who lives in that palace? Who dares to have disrespect of the one who occupies that magnificent compound? Except in whisper, who dares to shout at Kohima Raj Bhavan or who the hell has the gut to publicly mock at the appointee of the President of India who occupies the chair of Nagaland’s Raj Bhavan at Kohima. Raj Bhavan, the name itself commands respect as it is the house of the king. Who does not respect the king?
By tradition, Nagas had no king or kings in the past. Yet, when Statehood was created the requisite paraphernalia of having a Governor at Kohima Raj Bhavan was one of the demands of Naga Peoples’ Convention though there was no unanimity on Statehood. In general, Nagas have due respect whoever comes as Governor of Nagaland irrespective of the background of the person.Meanwhile, I recalled what had happened to one of the former Governors of Nagaland a two and half decades ago. It happened to one Sri. MM Thomas, the erstwhile veneration, His Excellency, the Governor of Nagaland. By sheer bad luck, probably the then Governor was hypnotized by his political zeal irked a section of politicians whereby he earned the most sarcastic name in the annals of Raj Bhavan
history as ‘Misa Mishi Thomas’. Presently, I am sure there is at least a Dobashi in Kohima Raj Bhavan to interpret what does ‘Misa Mishi’ mean to the Honourable Governor Sri. BP Acharya.
Of late, an article on the incoherent activities of the Honourable Governor of Nagaland Sri. BP Achrarya by Sebastian appeared in local papers. The writer, without euphemism and ambiguity, eulogised the over political and religious indulgences of the Governor with hidden motive, with unbridled attempts to propagate the agendas of RSS in his official functions and to the extent of highlighting how the Governor
Acharya made nepotistic appointment of only RSS cadres to be members of Dibrugarh University court. Sebastian’s eulogy contains nothing less than the colours of deride and mock at the occupant of Kohima Raj Bhavan.
Mr. Lima Jamir, another senior citizen from Dimapur, un-hesitantly questioned the Governor BP Acharya’s secular credentials and his relentless campaign for the spread of Hinduism.
Yet, what Kohima Raj Bhavan can do to redeem its esteem since those exposures are not mere figment of imaginations.
A week gone since the articles appeared in all the local papers, and yet no clarification nor rejoinder against the said articles has come from Kohima Raj Bhavan. Whoever is the Governor of Nagaland, he/she is supposed to be above the waves of controversies, doubts and criticisms from ordinary quarters. Why has BP Acharya given so much opportunities to others to bamboo him around as they liked? How has the Honourable Governor Sri. BP Acharya volunteered himself to be part of the enumerated controversies concerning his zeal to be the star campaigner of RSS in Nagaland? Why BP Acharya, the Honourable Governor of Nagaland has reduced the status of Raj Bhavan to a mere branch office of his religion and its RSS propaganda HQ? Has BP Acharya not usurped his official position as the constitutional head of the State of
Nagaland for giving more importance to his religion than to Governorship? Has not Sri. BP Acharya, the Honourable Governor of Nagaland undermined the Constitution of India?
Well, the Governor BP Acharya may not be alone here. The RSS pracharak BP Acharya, despite of holding the gubernatorial post, has not relented is his professional pursuit for propagation of Hinduism in the land of Christians. Perhaps, the Governor is given a ray of hope that Hinduism is taking its root in Nagaland beginning with the followers of a cult leader Gaidinliu called Heraka as we all know. The present Government of Nagaland headed by CM Mr. TR Zeliang is urging to expeditiously complete Gaidinliu’s memorial building at Kohima. The CM intends to please part of his vote bank, the Herakains. Probably, once the building is completed, other adorations of the cult leader may follow as demanded by Herakains. The cult followers, the Herakains will be fully backed up by Sri. BP Acharya, the Governor of Nagaland who may like to popularise Heraka along with the CM TR Zeliang in the guise of giving equal treatment to every religion. And it is well known that Heraka has closely knitted with RSS.
I was surprised to discover that RSS has its tentacles penetrated into a small area in eastern part of Nagaland under the leadership of another lady called Yahoi or Yaloi whose followers admitted that they are Herakains as reported. May be the Governor Acharya is trying to firmly establish the Hinduism foundation during his tenure in Nagaland.
