Dimapur, Feb. 6: A Jalukie-bound passenger vehicle (Tata Sumo - NL01T8287) from Dimapur plunged 120-feet off the roadway at Razaphema village near Medziphema at around 1 pm on Feb. 5, leaving one person dead and five others injured.
A source informed Eastern Mirror that the deceased (male) was returning to Jalukie after visiting his daughter in Dimapur.
The vehicle (taxi) was carrying six passengers when the accident happened. Source from the police department revealed that only one injured passenger (female) was present at the accident site when the police arrived. She was rushed to the Zion Hospital in Dimapur by the police.
“By the time we reached the spot, four injured passengers were already rushed to the hospital by the youths and IRB unit of Razaphema,” said the source, adding that a case has been registered against the driver who fled the scene following the mishap. The driver was apprehended and is in custody of the Medziphema police.
The source said that Dimapur police took time to reach the site due to the distance and bad road condition.
