New school building of GPS Lerümedi, T Khel inaugurated
KOHIMA, MAY 19: DEPUTY Commissioner of Kohima, Rovilato Mor Thursday stressed the need for the active participation of parents in educating their children from early age.
“To educate a child, it’s not alone the responsibility of the teachers. Indeed, every parent should hold equal responsibility in imparting education to their children. Many parents have the tendency to entrust the teachers wholly, and blame them when their children do not perform well academically,” the DC said. He was speaking as chief guest at the inaugural programme of new school building of Government Primary School, Lerümedi at Tsütuonuomia Khel Model Village, Kohima.
“A combined effort and cooperation from the teachers, parents and students will lead in producing good academic results, following which, we will be able to realize our goal in imparting quality education and progress to where we desire,” Mor said.
The DC lauded the T. Khel Village Education Committee for having initiated in constructing the new school building, which he said, will go a long way in the progress of the education sector. Stating that every child has the right to education, he informed about government’s plan to set up schools in every nook and corner of the State so that not a single child is neglected to pursue education.
“The State government is ever ready to open up schools and provide educational facilities where people settle,” he said. It may be mentioned that the GPS Lerümedi was established in 2014. The school now functions with 26 students and seven teachers.
The DC also urged the teachers to render their best service in imparting knowledge, so that the school will one day become a model for the rest of the schools in Nagaland.
The VEC chairman Thepfuhulie Belho, in his address, thanked the Zatsunuomia clan of T. Khel for donating the land free of cost, while he also thanked the District Mission Authority and Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan for taking all the initiatives in bringing the school this far starting from 2014.
“As the village community pursues to convert this area/colony into a model village, one of the first priorities that comes to mind as far as development is concerned, is formal education,” Belho said adding that the foundation has been laid through the noble initiative of DMA/SSA Kohima and the School Education department. The VEC chairman further informed that the newly inaugurated school building was funded by SSA with a total budget of Rs. 22, 18,182.
Meanwhile, the VEC chairman has also thanked the Assam Rifle, IDBI Bank and all other organisations for contributing financially and materially towards the development of the school.
Others who spoke at occasion were Thongsenlo Kath, Assistant District Coordinator of DMA/SSA, Kohima and Thepfuvilie Suohu, chairman, T. Khel Council.
The programme commenced with invocation pronounced by Keviyie Belho, chaplain, Khedi Baptist English School, Kohima, while the welcome address was delivered by Ruokuobeituo Suohu, president, T. Khel Students’ Union. A special number was presented by GPS School, Lerümedi, while the head teacher Zakieseno tendered the vote of thanks.
