Kohima, Aug. 12 (EMN): Health minister, S Pangnyu Phom, on Friday released a dictionary in Yachem titled ‘Yachem Allou Tetshep’ during a programme held at the Yachem community hall in Longleng district.
Speaking on the occasion, Pangnyu observed that with modernisation, values of original languages/ dialects are on the verge of extinction. He has appreciated the Yachem Buhu Staff Pangthai (Yachem Citizen Staff Union) for spearheading the initiative for the benefit of present and upcoming generations of Yachem and Phom community in general.
He exuded hope that the dictionary would foster the growth of Phom people in general in routing to the grassroots to know one’s languages and dialect more interestingly and importantly.
He urged upon the gathering to be humble and strive to learn the languages on priority to lead the society and people in a proper way as well as to preserve one’s identity. He also called upon the people to undertake research on languages, customs and traditions and make it a useful tool for all adding that knowing one’s languages properly would help to unify and connect one another without any inconveniences.
He further urged upon the youngsters to make use of dictionary, read and learn the dialect, which according to him, is the key to uplift, unite and lead the right platform.
On the occasion, speeches were also delivered by Sangti Phom, head barrick of Yachem; Osangtemjen, C Longnyu, Dobashi; and P Chinglong, headmaster of GHS, Nyenghong.
The introduction of the dictionary was presented by M Chailong Phom, convenor of Yachem Allou Tetshep.
