DIMAPUR — The 15th Edition of Physics Academy of North-East (PANE) Conference was held from November 18 to the 20th at Nagaland University (NU), Lumami. The event provides a platform for physicists, academicians, and researchers to present their work.


The three-day PANE 2025, the first-ever such conference in Nagaland, ‘featured 14 invited speakers, 40 oral presentations and 20 poster presentations, ranging across important research areas in Physics, such as condensed matter physics, high energy physics, material science, nuclear physics, etc.’, updated PRO NU in a press release on Friday.


Speaking at the inaugural session, chief guest Prof. Jagadish K. Patnaik, Vice-Chancellor, NU, emphasised the importance of basic sciences in the research and innovation of new technologies for the progress of society.

He also thanked PANE for choosing NU to host 15th Edition of the annual conference.


In his opening remarks, Prof. Y. Sundarayya, Head of the Department of Physics, traced the history and growth of the department since its establishment in 2013, including securing funded research projects worth INR 2.5 crore within a decade.


He also expressed gratitude to Vice-Chancellor of Nagaland University, Prof. Jagadish K. Patnaik, for the new science building which was inaugurated on August 15 this year and acknowledged the efforts of university officials to make the conference possible.


Prof. Ng. Nimai Singh, President of PANE, shared the journey of the organisation since its inception in 1997, emphasising its commitment in promoting excellence in Physics across the Northeast region.


He also highlighted its initiatives in recognising veteran scientists through awards and contributing to academic literature through biannual publications of books and journals.


Dr. Samrat Dey, General Secretary of PANE, shared the organisation’s wide range of programmes, including school‐level outreach and training sessions, summer and winter schools, online interviews, conferences, and various fellowship opportunities.


Several other dignitaries, including Prof. G. U. Kulkarni, an eminent scientist and senior professor from JNCASR, Bengaluru, who was also the guest of honour and the keynote speaker at the conference; Dr. Abemo, Registrar of NU; Dr. N. Shanta Singh, Convenor of the conference, and Dr. Vijeth, Co-Convenor of the conference, also spoke at the event.


As many as 120 participants and delegates from different institutions of North-East and from other parts of India attended the conference, informed the update.
