Dimapur, Sep. 22 (EMN): Padma Shri Piyongtemjen Jamir, the director of Rastra Bhasa Hindi Teaching Institute, Dimapur was felicitated on the concluding day of the week-long ‘Hindi Week’ at Indian Council of Agricultural Research - National Research Centre (ICAR-NRC) on Mithun, Medziphema.
The Padma Shri recipient, who was the chief guest on the concluding day of the week, was presented with a plaque for being conferred with the national award 2018 in the field of literature and education, and for his outstanding contribution in popularisation of Hindi in Nagaland.
A press release received here from the centre said that, Piyongtemjen Jamir, lamented that though Hindi is a national language, it is not being adopted well throughout the country as most of the textbooks in higher education like medical and engineering are not written in Hindi. Saying that Hindi is not only the ‘national language’ but also a pride for the people, Jamir said a nation cannot progress unless its language progresses. He hoped that Hindi will serve as a linking-language of the tribes of Nagaland and will help to unite the Nagas.
The release stated that during the period of one week, various competitive programmes like essay writing, Hindi reading, extempore, antakshari competition and dictation were held which was participated by the staff of the ICAE-NRC on Mithun and school actively participated.
Other dignitaries present on this occasion were Walen Jamir, Principal, Rashtra Bhasha Hindi Teaching Institute, Dimapur and Khrutsulu Dozo, PGT (Hindi), GHSS, Dimapur.
The director of the ICAR-NRC on Mithun, Dr. Abhijit Mitra, speaking at the programme, said that HIndi is not only the third most spoken language in the world but also now being used in the development of artificial intelligence. He motivated the staff members to use Hindi as much as possible like while issuing office order in bilingual version i.e. in both English and Hindi; using of bilingual office seal, tender inquiry etc. The event was organized by the in-charge Hindi Cell Dr. (Mrs). Saroj Toppo, Principal Scientist, the release further stated.
