[dropcap]Q[/dropcap]uite some years ago a very healthy young completely Naked Sadhu walked up to Kohima bare foot from Dimapur with CRP Armed Guards a decent distance behind him. I happened to be traveling to Dimapur from Kohima that day. I passed the Sadhu near Zubza Assam Rifle Camp in the morning at about 10. The naked Sadhu appeared completely at ease and happily interested in his walk, He never showed any sign of uneasiness at his interesting attire or complete lack of it.
I glanced at him, and for fleeting instant looked at the God’s architecture; I saw the genuine mark of a God’s male Gender and realized he is no fake exhibitionist. He looked at me interestedly. He did not appear out to attract publicity or to grind his Axe like Guru Ramdev who also visited Kohima to teach his Yoga to Christians in Nagaland. When I saw the attractive figure of the naked Sadhu, I thought some Hindu Organizations are out to attract Nagas to their fold: nothing bad in itself.
In the naked Naga Society, however no sane person goes about naked in the Public unless one is completely out of his or her Senses. If some mad persons go about naked in the Village, some elderly women would take some cloth and cover him compassionately. The Sadhu stayed in the Jain Temple at Kohima for a few days. I never came to know who or what Organization brought him to troublesome Nagaland. If some Religious Organizations brought him to draw the Interest of Christian Nagas, they did not succeed and the interesting Sadhu left quietly without creating any ripple in the Nagas. If any Hindu Organization try to bring Hinduism to the Nagas, that is quite understandable; there is no restriction, but to hoodwink others without genuine concern for the people; just Safronization, would smack of Religious Paddling.
One Naga Woman Reverend is said to have distributed the Holy Bible to each and every MP of the present Parliament. This is a private personal action of one person. She has every liberty, but if a Chief Minister or a Public Figure were to distribute Scripture Books to people publicly in a Public Institute or in other Public Places, it would be highly Non-Apolitic.
When a renowned Christian Theologian was posted as the Governor of Nagaland, the energetic Governor visited Churches in Kohima on Sundays. One Sunday the Governor visited a Church in Kohima Village and expected to be given the Pulpit to make a short Speech. A short Time was given him but the Pulpit was not given and he had to make a short speech from the front of the common general floor of the Building.
It is very necessary for Public Servants to show the Secular Stance to the Public in Public Places and Public Activities. The Governor is a public Figure; he has every liberty to follow any Religion he likes, but it was unbecoming for the Governor of Nagaland the other day, to distribute Religious Books publicly in a Public Institution at Dimapur, it smacked of Paddling the word of God, perhaps for self-interest!
