DIMAPUR — The
Pungro Area College Students’ Union (PACSU) comprising of 44 federating units
of Pungro sub-division under Kiphire district has extended full support to the
5-day ultimatum jointly issued by two apex student organisations namely
Yimkhiung Akherü Arihako (YAA) and Tikhir Students’ Union (TSU) to the chief
secretary of Nagaland on November 25, urging the state government to expedite
implementation of the 25% job reservation for seven tribes and six districts of
eastern Nagaland.
It stated that adequate representation in government jobs
not only promote inclusivity in workforce but also ensure that public
institutions truly represent the diverse population they serve is crucial for
creating more equitable and effective governance. While reminding that the
right to equality and access to opportunities is a fundamental principle
enshrined in the Indian Constitution, it said reservation would ensure that
disadvantaged groups are given the opportunity they deserved.
2023, PACSU stated that the state government chose to remain
heedless in attending to the issue.
Terming the demand of YAA and TSU as genuine, PACSU urged
the state government to consider the matter within the stipulated time.
Meanwhile, it cautioned that failure to fulfill its demand
within the stipulated timeframe would compel the union to resort to indefinite
democratic agitation and abstinence from all the state events. It further added
that the state government would be fully held responsible in the event of any
untoward incident during the course of its agitation.
