Dimapur, June 23 (EMN): Public Action Committee (PAC), consisting of all tribal hohos in Dimapur, has expressed its disapproval over what it termed as “excessive spree of collecting illegal multiple taxation” on Dimapur traders by Naga National Political Groups (NNPG).
“As the state is fighting an unprecedented battle where state police personnel are engaged 24x7, it is sad that the NNPG have taken undue advantage of this and started rampant collection of money in Dimapur causing tremendous mental harassment to traders," an update from PAC stated on Tuesday.
It also wondered how long could the public go on succumbing to such taxations where everyone is affected directly or indirectly.
“It is a known fact that traders charge the consumers ultimately for all the taxation paid and the public is the end loser. Inspite of the lockdown due to the pandemic, no mercy have been shown to the traders which is most insensible and beyond comprehension,” PAC added.
While pointing out that Nagas solely depended on other states for all commodities be it hardware, essential commodities etc., PAC stated that taxation imposed on transportation agencies have reached its zenith where transporters are on the verge of closing down all transportation activities. It has taken serious note of the situation as it would affect the whole state and cripple the state economy as all business’ depend on transporters to deliver goods.
PAC, on behalf of the public of Dimapur, has appealed to the state government to protect its citizens from such rampant illegal collection taking place on broad day light. It warned that the cry of the public, if left unattended, might lead to further breakdown of law and order.
Going by the trend of rampant extortion taking place, PAC pointed out that the commercial hub is most affected, which would consequently affect all other districts.
“The state government is not unaware of these activities and the silence only reveals its incapability, complacent attitude or is in connivance with these elements,” PAC alleged.
PAC has also condemned the attitude of the central government and its machineries for not being sincere in implementing the 'ceasefire ground rules' as the Naga public are left at their own mercy to fend for themselves. It went to say that ceasefire has not benefited Nagas in reality as the misery of the public have tripled. PAC urged the government of India to not let the people suffer with inconclusive talks.
PAC further appealed to both the state and central governments to reign over the unabated illegal collection of money rampantly taking place in Dimapur causing great hardship to one and all.
