Over 30,000 bottles of assorted liquor destroyed

Staff Reporter Dimapur, February 27 The Excise department destroyed an assortment of contraband on Saturday, confiscated over a five-month period, from September 2014 to January 2015. The illegal imports, which included 32, 434 bottles of assorted liquor, 33 kilograms of ganja, 7729 capsules/tablets of SP/Nitrosun and 798 phails condine cough syrup were disposed off at the Excise Directorate Complex. The value of the destroyed items was estimated at around worth Rs. 27, 85, 000 (twenty seven lakh eighty five thousand). Also giving a brief report on the achievements of Excise department, Lanuwati Jamir, Deputy Commissioner of Excise (Hq) said that during the period of 2014 (January to December) 14 drug cases were detected and 2461 liquor cases were detected and registered. The department also seized 281276 bottles of assorted liquor, 3725 litres of country liquor, 418 kilograms of ganja, 150 grams of cocaine, 0.5 grams of brown sugar, 3 kgs of opium, 43943 tablets of SP/RP and 5376 bottles of cough syrup. The state ex-chequer also got richer by Rs. 39, 31, 900 (thirty nine lacs thirty one thousand nine hundred)—the amount accumulated as monetary penalty imposed on offenders.
