Over 1.3 lakh Nagaland women in self-help groups

state of Nagaland, a total of 1,35,261 women have been mobilised into 15,419
self-help groups (SHGs) and nationwide, 10,05,20,879 crore women have been
mobilised into 90,90,405 SHGs as of January 31, 2025.
- This was informed by the Minister of State for Rural
Development, Dr. Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, in a written reply in the Lok Sabha
on Tuesday.
- Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Rural Livelihoods
Mission (DAY-NRLM) has been implemented across the country in mission mode since
2011. The aim is to bring at least one woman member from each rural poor
household, as per the Socio-Economic Caste Census (SECC) 2011 data and the
process of Participatory Identification of Poor (PIP), into the fold of SHGs
and support them in taking up economic activities.
- In the country, the top three states with the highest number
of SHGs are West Bengal, leading with 11,92,980 SHGs, followed closely by Bihar
with 10,97,100 SHGs, and Andhra Pradesh with 8,55,600 SHGs.
- Among the northeastern states, Assam leads with 3,61,516
SHGs, followed by Tripura with 51,841, Meghalaya with 45,312, Arunachal Pradesh
with 11,730, Manipur with 11,538, Mizoram with 10,291, and Sikkim with 5,915
SHGs.
- Under DAY-NRLM, various sub-schemes such as the Mahila Kisan
Sashaktikaran Pariyojana (MKSP), Start-up Village Entrepreneurship Programme
(SVEP), National Rural Economic Transformation Project (NRETP), Deendayal
Upadhyay Gramin Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY), and Rural Self Employment Training
Institutes (RSETI) are being implemented to enhance the income of the rural
poor on a sustainable basis.
