Diphu, Nov. 1 (EMN): The first Ove Chingthur knock-out football tournament kicked off at Kongjuk Athoi playground, 60 km away from Diphu, on Tuesday.
The tournament is being organised by Ove Chingthur Club and is played in memory of late Sarthe Lekthe and sponsored by executive member (EM) of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) for Fisheries, Handloom & Textiles and Adult Education, Madhuram Lekthe.
The inaugural match was played between EM Quarter and BJP Langfer mandal committee.
In the first half, EM Quarter led by 2 goals scored through the boots of Bhubon Tokbi and Sar-im Timung.
In the second half, Langfer displayed stronger attacks and scored two goals. Robiram Tokbi and Sarman Timung scored a goal each for Mandal.
Both sides tried to go for scores, but the score-line remained 2 - 2 at the end of the stipulated time.
In the resultant tie-breaker, EM team edged past their rivals 6 - 5.
On Wednesday, Black Diamond FC will clash with Klimsomar FC.
