Wokha unit of the National Leprosy Eradication Programme conducts orientation on leprosy for healthcare workers.

DIMAPUR — The Wokha unit of National Leprosy Eradication Programme (NLEP) on Friday conducted an orientation on leprosy for healthcare workers at the conference hall of the chief medical officer’s (CMO) office with Michael Murry, NLEP senior health educator, and MhonthungTsanglao, NLEP paramedical worker, as the resource persons.
Addressing the healthcare workers, Dr. Thungchanbemo Ezung, CMO of Wokha, mentioned that leprosy is a caused by bacteria called mycobacterium leprae and is curable. He informed the healthcare workers on the free treatment available for leprosy patients at government health facilities and sought concerted effort from them in order to eliminate the disease from the community.

An update from the CMO stated that the resource persons covered topics on signs and symptoms, diagnosis and treatment, multi drug therapy, stigma associated with leprosy, strategic plan and road map 2027 and zero leprosy.
A total of 78 community health officers, ANMs and ASHAs from the district attended the orientation training.
