DIMAPUR — The Mokokchung division of Health and Family Welfare Department under National Leprosy Elimination Programme (NLEP) conducted an orientation on leprosy for healthcare workers on Thursday at the conference hall of the chief medical officer (CMO) in Mokokchung town.
Addressing the healthcare workers, Dr. R Toshimenla Jamir informed that the National Strategy Plan (NPS) aims to eradicate leprosy by 2027. In this regard, she stated that ASHAs are the backbone of health system and have to willingly coordinate, participate and work for the community by supporting the department.
In the event of any suspected case, she urged the ASHAs to inform the community health officer and healthcare workers of the health units.

An update from the CMO stated that the resource persons spoke on the signs and symptoms of leprosy, diagnosis and treatment, multi-drug therapy, stigma associated with the disease, strategic plan and roadmap 2027 and the goal of achieving zero leprosy.
The resource persons of the orientation were Dr. R Toshimenla Jamir, DPO CD II/NLEP, and Rongsenwati, PMW.
