Dimapur, July 19 (EMN): Commemorating the ‘100 days of Smart City special initiative campaign on sanitation,’ a one-day orientation programme was organised for educational institutions on July 12 in which 230 students from seven colleges attended the programme.
The programme was organised in collaboration with the Green Team Kohima, a vibrant organisation involved in Eco-friendly initiatives. The programme was initiated on the theme ‘My waste, My responsibility.’
The students and faculty were briefed on its functioning, challenges and how each citizen could contribute to better management of wastes generated from each household with particular focus on segregation of different types of wastes.
A video on youth initiative to waste management and plastic pollution was shared by the resource person, Thangi Mannen. She also presented a power point presentation on waste management and plastic pollution.
A practical session was held with the students wherein each group was divided to collect plastics wrappers, carry bags and packets from the wastes pile and shoved into plastic bottles to make eco-bricks. It was an initiation to reduce non-degradable wastes into creative and useful items instead of littering.
Each college was challenged with creating an eco-park/ site in their college before the end of September under the 100 days challenge. Prizes would be awarded to the best and most creative park.
