Dimapur, June 16 (EMN): Regional orientation workshop for field officers on special outreach programme 2017-18 was held at de Oriental Grand on June 15. The programme was organised by the Directorate of Field Publicity (Ministry of Information & Broadcasting) Regional Office Nagaland & Manipur.
Speaking at the programme, Parliamentary Secretary of IPR, Imtikumzuk, reminded that field officers’ duty is to disseminate timely information to the masses and reach out to the people living in the rural areas to make them aware on the various schemes and developmental activities carried out by the government. Highlighting on Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, he said the campaign by the Government of India is to clean the streets, roads and infrastructure of cities and towns. He added the campaign was officially launched on October 2, 2014, at New Delhi by the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi and is India’s largest ever cleanliness drive with 3 million government employees, school and college students from all parts of India participating in the campaign.
He also mentioned that the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) is to address the declining Child Sex Ratio (CSR) and related issues of women empowerment and the emphasis has been made to change mindset change through training, sensitisation, awareness raising and community mobilisation on ground. He also said the NDA Government is trying to bring about a transformational shift in the way our society looks at the girl child. He also briefed on the Pradhan Mantri Jan-Dhan Yojana (PMJDY).
The parliamentary secretary hoped that the Directorate of Field Publicity would become a world class messenger in interpersonal communication mode between the GOI and people to create a better informed society.
Mangjangam Touthong, Regional Director DFP, Kohima, highlighted on the functions of DFP which seeks to disseminate information generate awareness and bring about attitudinal change in the people towards union government plans and programmes and act as a bridge between the people and the government. He also said that the objective of DFP is to establish rapport with the people at the grassroot level for their active participation in the developmental activities and also to mobilise public opinion in favour of implementation of welfare and developmental programmes.
Mentioning that DFP has undertaken special outreach programme to highlight the flagship programmes initiated during the last three years of the Central government with special focus on Swachh Bharat, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao and PM Jan Dhan Yojana, he stated that the year- long campaign will be launched from today covering the two states of Nagaland and Manipur.
He said as on June 7, a total of 28. 81 crore beneficiaries have open an account under the PMJDY. Similarly, under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, over 4,13,28000 households have built toilets since October 2, 2014 and over 2 lakh villages have been declared open defecation free.
Under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao initiative, government is working on war footing to arrest trend of decline in child sex ratio through prevention of gender bias sex selective elimination and ensuring survival and protection of girl child as well as ensuring education and participation of the girl child.
He further acknowledged the IPR for being instrumental in creating better coordination and building the bridge between central and State media units in Nagaland.
