DIMAPUR — Oriental College organised a
multidisciplinary conference on "Emerging paradigms in Social Sciences,
Humanities and Commerce for the 21st century" in Kohima on Saturday.
The conference aimed to bring together academicians,
scientists, researchers, scholars, and students to exchange and share their
knowledge, experiences, and research findings on advancements in the fields of
social sciences, humanities, and commerce, according to an update.
Prof. Nigamananda Das, head of the department of English at
Nagaland University, and Dr. Jasojit Debnath, associate professor in the
department of Commerce at Nagaland University, delivered the keynote addresses.
Das pointed out that, since time immemorial, humans have
exploited nature, or Mother Earth, which has provided for their diverse needs.
However, this overexploitation has given rise to the discipline of
anthropocentrism, which warns against human excesses that harm the environment.
He added that emerging disciplines such as digital
humanities, medical and health humanities, climate humanities, and plastic
humanities have been developed to explore new possibilities for safeguarding
the future.
Dr. Debnath provided an overview of contemporary research
topics in the discipline of commerce, including corporate governance,
sustainability, intellectual capital, and related areas.
He emphasised the need to restrict the use of AI and
discussed why it should not be utilised in research papers, asserting that
humans are sufficiently capable and more efficient.
It was mentioned that there were a total of 13 presenters.
