Dimapur, Sep. 14 (EMN): Petroleum Dealers Association Dimapur (PDAD) informed the public that all retail outlets in Dimapur would remain closed on September 16 in support and solidarity with the DCCI and CNCCI call for state-wide business shutdown.
It mentioned that oil prices in the state were higher compared to other neighbouring states due to higher taxation, which adversely affected business. The association has sought cooperation and bear with the inconvenience.
Meanwhile in response to the call of Confederation of Nagaland Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CNCCI), the Wokha District Chamber of Commerce and Industry (WDCCI) appealed to all the business community in Wokha district to close their establishments on September 16 in the fight against ‘rampant multiple and illegal taxation’ by various groups and government agencies.
WDCCI strongly affirmed solidarity with the public throughout the state over the issue of multiple taxations by Naga political groups (NPG). A WDCCI press release issued by its media cell felt that there is utter lack of coordination and sensitivity on the part of the government agencies in addressing the needs and concerns of the business community.
While expressing regret for the inconveniences, WDCCI further earnestly requested everyone to cooperate and ensure peaceful closure of shops within Wokha district on that day.
The Dimapur District Citizens’ Forum (DDCF) has endorsed the total shutdown of all shops and business establishments in Dimapur on September 16 called by the Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) against the rampant multiple and illegal taxation by various groups as well government agencies.
DDCF urged all its tribal and non-tribal affiliated communities to fully support the total shutdown of all shops and business establishments called by the DCCI and CNCCI.
The GBs’ Union Dimapur (GBUD) too has supported the total shutdown of shops and business establishments in Dimapur on September 16 called by the DCCI against multiple and rampant illegal taxation by various groups.
The Kohima Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) too supported the total shutdown of shops on September 16 called by DCCI against multiple taxations by NPG and government agencies.
KCCI has demanded the government to immediately resolve multiple taxations by NPGs, removal of all forms of tax/ fees collected by civic bodies on items that come under the GST regime, which has subsumed all taxes under ''One nation one tax''.
It also demanded to immediately implement Sarfaesi Act and also reserve nominee representation to municipal, town and ad-hoc town councils from business and trade bodies.
KCCI also informed that it would deploy volunteers to monitor the implementation of bandh order from 6 am to 6 pm on that day.
The Kohima Village Youth Organisation (KVYO) has also supported the one-day shop closure throughout the state on September 16 in protest against the rampant multiple and illegal taxations by various groups and government agencies.
The organisation requested all the civil society organisations (CSO) and non-governmental organisations (NGO) to support the one-day shop closure as it is not just affecting the business community alone but the public as well.
Stating that illegal taxations have hampered the developmental work throughout the state, KVYO asked the government to come up with a concrete plan to tackle the menace of illegal taxations.
KVYO further urged the Nagaland government to expedite the matter forwarded by the business community at the earliest.
