The YAA, AKM, and MTLT have condoled the tragic death of two students in the Mokokchung landslide at Penli Ward.
DIMAPUR — Multiple student and community organisations have expressed deep grief and extended condolences over the tragic demise of two young students in a devastating landslide at Upper Penli Ward in Mokokchung on Wednesday.
The deceased, identified as Muwalong Sangtam, 19, a Class 12 student, and Thridiba Sangtam, 16, a Class 11 student, were the sons of Merenba Sangtam of Alisopur village. Both were students at Queen Mary Higher Secondary School in Mokokchung and lost their lives when the landslide struck.
The Yimkhiung Akherü Arihako (YAA), in a condolence message, stated that the untimely loss of these two bright young minds is a sorrow shared by the entire Yimkhiung community. Conveying heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family, the YAA also prayed for the speedy recovery of their mother, who sustained injuries in the incident.
The Ao Students' Conference (AKM) also conveyed its profound grief, stating that the passing of these young lives, whose hopes and promising futures were cut short by the unforeseen tragedy, is an irreparable loss to their family, friends, educational institution, and the student fraternity as a whole.

The AKM stood in solidarity with the bereaved family and expressed appreciation to the district administration, disaster response personnel, volunteers, civil society organisations, and everyone who rendered selfless service during the rescue operations. It called upon the student community and the public to remain united in extending support and prayers.
The Mokokchung Town Lanur Telongjem (MTLT) expressed deep sadness, stating that words are insufficient to express the grief over the loss of these two promising students.
"This tragedy is a great loss not only to the Sangtam community but also to the people of Mokokchung. Though we belong to different tribes, we remain one Naga family, united by a shared bond of brotherhood," the MTLT stated.
The MTLT added that in moments when nature strikes with devastating force, the community is reminded of the fragility of life, and expressed solidarity with the bereaved family and the Sangtam community.
