Organisations in Dimapur marked World Environment Day with seminars, competitions and plantation drives.

DIMAPUR — Multiple organisations in Dimapur organised programmes to mark World Environment Day, including farmers' seminars, educational competitions, and plantation drives on June 5 and 6.
ICAR KVK Dimapur: The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR)-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Dimapur, organised a farmers' seminar on “Sustainable agriculture and environmental conservation: World Environment Day 2026 (Inspired by Nature, For Climate, For our Future)” alongside a Khet Bachao Abhiyan campaign on June 5 at the KVK conference hall, Medziphema.
According to an update, the seminar was attended by Amenla Longchar, Deputy Director of State Horticulture Nursery, as the chief guest, and Dr. Homeswar Kalita, Head of Regional Centre, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Nagaland Centre, as the special guest. Honito Sema, BJP Mandal President of Ghaspani II, attended the programme as a special invitee.
The guests encouraged farmers to adopt eco-friendly, sustainable farming practices and briefed them on the nationwide Khet Bachao Abhiyan campaign, which continues until June 30.
During the technical session, Dr. Akshay Ujjwal, Subject Matter Specialist (Agronomy), delivered a talk on organic farming, while Dr. Marneni Divya Sree, Subject Matter Specialist (Agricultural Extension), spoke on the natural farming certification system, explaining its procedures and opportunities.

In the practical demonstration session, E Lireni Kikon conducted a demonstration on seed treatment in pigeon pea for disease management and healthy crop establishment. Dr. Bendangla Imsong, Subject Matter Specialist (Plant Breeding), demonstrated the use of the Leaf Colour Chart in maize for efficient nitrogen management and balanced fertiliser application.
The programme also included the distribution of agricultural inputs, such as row markers, battery-operated sprayers, and Assam lemon saplings, to the participating progressive farmers from six villages: Medziphema, Bade, Kukidolong, Tsuma, New Chümoukedima, and Lotovi.
EDUCEN: EDUCEN organised a debate competition and extempore speech competition at Dimapur Railway High School, Dimapur, on June 6 to promote environmental awareness, critical thinking, and public speaking skills.
Angshik Sharma Biswas, President of EDUCEN, highlighted the significance of World Environment Day and encouraged students to take active responsibility in protecting the environment and promoting sustainable practices.
The competitions were judged by Rupa Dutta Dey, Senior Teacher of Dimapur Railway High School, and Ankur Sharma Biswas, Vice-President of EDUCEN, who assessed the participants on the basis of content, confidence, clarity of expression, presentation, and overall performance.
A total of 12 students from Dimapur Railway High School participated in the debate competition. The participants were divided into two teams of six members each and debated on the topic "The responsibility of cleanliness: Government’s duty or citizen's”.
Following the competitions, Rohit Chakraborty, Education Secretary of EDUCEN, delivered an awareness speech pointing out the urgent need for environmental protection and sustainable living.
Dimapur 24/7: Dimapur 24/7 organised a plantation and sapling distribution drive across the city on the occasion of World Environment Day.
Under the leadership of its Chairperson, Annie Jain, the team distributed 111 saplings to local educational institutions and frontline traffic police personnel.
As part of the initiative, the Dimapur 24/7 team visited The Maple Tree School and Eden Higher Secondary School, where saplings were handed over to school authorities and students to encourage tree plantation within campus grounds.
Following the school visits, the team distributed saplings to traffic police personnel in Dimapur.
