NAYO, ZSUN, and NKPO condemn the late-night armed threat at R John Zeliang's residence in Jalukie 'B', Peren district.
DIMAPUR — The Nsong Area Youth Organisation (NAYO), Zeliangrong Students' Union Nagaland (ZSUN), and Nsong Kebai Public Organisation (NKPO), have condemned an alleged armed threat incident at the residence of youth leader R John Zeliang at Jalukie 'B' village on September 20.
According to a press statement from NAYO, the incident occurred at around 11:10 pm at the residence of its president, R John Zeliang.
Eyewitnesses reported that two unidentified individuals dressed in half-camouflage attire and carrying what appeared to be fully automatic firearms came to the vicinity of the residence late at night. Upon realising the threat, the president raised an alarm and alerted neighbours, prompting the armed persons to flee.
NAYO described the occurrence as deeply disturbing, stating that it creates fear and insecurity while raising serious questions concerning the safety of office-bearers and the public. Calling upon the Police department, district administration, and security authorities to treat the matter with urgency, NAYO demanded a thorough, impartial, and time-bound investigation to identify the perpetrators, establish the motive and source of weapons, and determine if the act was an attempt to silence the organisation.
Appealing to the public to remain calm, NAYO affirmed that it rejects violence and intimidation and will continue its responsibilities lawfully.
In a separate statement, ZSUN took a serious exception to the incident at the residence of R John Zeliang, who is also the President of the Zeliangrong Youth Front Nagaland (ZYFN).
ZSUN stated that growing gun culture and armed coercion have no place in a lawful society and will not be tolerated by the Zeliangrong community. It urged law-enforcement authorities to conduct a swift and unbiased probe to apprehend the culprits without fear or favour.
Condemning the intrusion, the NKPO stated that the presence of unidentified individuals carrying sophisticated firearms at a private residence late at night poses a grave threat to peace and security.
Appealing to the authorities for strict legal action against those responsible, the organisation also urged all sections of society to maintain restraint and communal harmony.
