- DIMAPUR — Condemnations
continue to pour in following the physical assault on a nursing student at District
Hospital Dimapur on February 24, with demands for stringent action against the
perpetrators and for justice to be delivered.
- The Angami Women Organisation (AWO), in a condemnation note,
said that acts of violence against women, particularly young professionals who
dedicate their lives to serving others, are deeply disturbing and have no place
in a civilised society.
- It urged hospitals and institutions to implement strong
measures to prevent such incidents in the future and to ensure the rights and dignity
of all healthcare workers are safeguarded.
- The Chakhesang Mothers' Association expressed that the
incident is a violation of fundamental rights, including the right to life, the
right to live with dignity, and the right to practise any profession, which
encompasses the right to a safe environment free from harassment.
- It added that any attempt to bail or the bailing of the
accused in any way will not be accepted or tolerated by the association, and
the concerned individual or group will be doing so at their own risk and
responsibility.
- The Naga Council Dimapur, in a note, said that such a
gruesome act perpetrated against a woman at a public medical institution in
broad daylight is nothing but a pre-planned provocation against the sanctity of
women.
- It appealed to all right-thinking citizens and CSOs to
render full cooperation to the law enforcement authorities in the investigation
so that justice is served without delay. It also lauded the Western Chakhesang
Hoho and the Chakhesang Women Organisation for their understanding and
compliance with the investigation process being handled by law enforcement.
- The Tenyimi Union Dimapur, Chümoukedima, and Niuland
questioned the concerned authorities, as well as the administrative and law
enforcement agencies, as to why there is no security within the premises. It
stated that the incident shows total failure and negligence on the part of the
government to protect innocent people, even at daybreak.
- The Dimapur Ao Youth Organisation said that such an act of
violence, especially against a woman, goes against the values and traditions of
Naga society. Meanwhile, the Khiamniungan Students' Union Dimapur stated that
the union will stand strong to support and protect individuals against such
actions. It also expressed solidarity with the victim and is ready to fight for
her justice in the event of justice being denied.
