Dimapur, March 23 (EMN): Various organisations have condemned the March 22 incident at Lamhai Nandi village in Peren district in which three civilians were killed by armed miscreants besides setting fire on properties. The organisations have urged the law enforcing agencies to investigate into the incident and award befitting punishment to the perpetrators involved in the incident.
NMA: The Naga Mothers’ Association (NMA), while condemning the brutal killings of three precious lives and destroying properties at Lamhai Namdi village in Peren district on the evening of March 22, appealed to all citizens to shun violence and killings.
NMA has also appealed to all the national workers not to indulge in any land disputes. It desired that any dispute should be settled through peaceful dialogue and not through the barrel of guns. It also appealed to the state government to ensure that safety, security and respect for precious human lives is upheld and take strong preventive measures to prevent recurrence of violence and killings in the state.
It demanded the law enforcing agencies to punish the perpetrators according to law and ensure that rule of law prevails. It also urged upon all the citizens to maintain peace and exercise utmost restraints and avoid spreading of rumours, provocative comments to avoid further escalation of tension.
It further conveyed condolences to the victims and other families.
Patton: The deputy chief minister and in-charge of Home department, Y Patton, has strongly condemned the Lamhainamdi incident and termed it as “outrageous and numbing” saying that such killings go against the very tenet of life.
Patton has also appealed for calm and maintain peace in the area stating that the government has taken cognisance of the seriousness of the issue. He added that the law would take its own course and award befitting punishment to the perpetrators in accordance with the law of the land.
Patton further stated that the Police department has set up a special investigation team (SIT) to probe the incident headed by a senior police officer.
ZOAN: The Zeliang Officers’ Association Nagaland (ZOAN), while condemning the act of some armed miscreants in which three innocent villagers were killed at Lamhai Namdi village in Peren district on March 22, appealed to the law enforcement agencies to bring the culprits to justice at the earliest.
The association has further sympathised with the bereaved family members and prayed to the Almighty God to grant them comfort and solace in their hour of grief and sorrow to bear with the loss.
The Tangkhul Union Dimapur (TUD) too has expressed serious concern over reported killing of three persons and the burning down of vehicles and other properties in Lamhainamdi village in Peren district.
It has urged all concerned for restraint and called for better sense to prevail stating that the very disturbing development has potential to explode into violence. Stating that violence in any form was unacceptable, the Tangkhul Union Dimapur unequivocally condemned the killings. It also called upon the law enforcing agencies to ensure that the culprits are booked at the earliest and delivered justice to the victims.
It has further sympathised with the bereaved family members and prayed for the departed soul to rest in peace.
TSUD: The Tenyimi Students' Union Dimapur (TSUD) has vehemently condemned the brutal murder of three innocent villagers of Lamhainamdi village in broad daylight by anti-social elements.
Terming the incident as the handiwork of some anti-social elements aimed at creating tension and disturbing peaceful coexistence amongst the Naga family, the union appealed to the law enforcing agencies and the government to leave no stone unturned in arresting the perpetrators and award befitting punishment.
It further appealed to the Naga leaders to solve any issue with wisdom amicably and not to encourage any sort of violence.
DNSU: The Dimapur Naga Students' Union (DNSU), while condemning the killing of three innocent villagers of Lamhainamdi village, stated that there is no room for such heartless criminals in this modern society adding that no individuals involved in the incident should be left unpunished.
While sympathising with the bereaved families, the union urged the law enforcing agency to take up the issue on priority and book the culprits without delay. The union further appealed to the public to abstain from instigating communal hatred but allowed the law to take its own course of action.
