Organisations condemn IED blast in Chümoukedima
DIMAPUR — Multiple organisations, political parties, church bodies, village councils, tribal organisations, and civil society groups have condemned the suspected improvised explosive device (IED) blast in Chümoukedima district on July 13, which claimed the life of Assam Rifles Havildar Mohd. Iqbal and injured several security personnel and a civilian.
The Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) expressed profound shock over the blast and described the incident as a direct assault on the sanctity of human life, peace, and the values of society.
In a note, the council extended prayers for the injured and comfort for their families and mourned the death of the security personnel. It appealed to citizens to remain calm, reject violence and retaliation, and urged churches across Nagaland to remember the victims, leaders, and the state in their prayers. It also called for a prompt, impartial, and thorough investigation.
The Naga People's Front (NPF) condemned the IED blast, describing the attack on security forces as unacceptable. The party extended condolences to the family of the deceased security personnel, wished the injured a speedy recovery, and urged the authorities to launch an immediate and thorough investigation to identify those responsible. It reiterated its commitment to peace, security, law, and order in Nagaland.

The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) strongly condemned the suspected IED blast. It expressed condolences to the family of Havildar Mohd. Iqbal and wished the injured personnel a speedy recovery. The party said violence has no place in a democratic and peace-loving society and called for a thorough, impartial, and time-bound investigation. It also urged citizens to remain calm, maintain communal harmony, and cooperate with the investigating agencies.
Janata Dal (United) Nagaland President and MLA Ar. Jwenga Seb condemned the attack on the Assam Rifles convoy, describing it as a cowardly act of violence. He said the incident was an assault on peace and stability in Nagaland and the wider Northeast, urged investigating agencies to bring those responsible to justice, and extended condolences to the family of the deceased jawan while wishing the injured a speedy recovery.
The Chümoukedima Village Council condemned the attack and stated that the incident appeared to be an attempt by fringe elements to derail the fragile gains secured through long, laborious negotiations and the sacrifice of countless citizens and security personnel. It urged state and central agencies to identify and apprehend those responsible while extending condolences to the family of the deceased jawan and prayers for the injured.

The Chümoukedima Town Mechü Krotho (CTMK) condemned the IED attack, stating that such indiscriminate violence was unacceptable and posed a serious threat to both security personnel and civilians. It called for a swift, impartial, and comprehensive investigation and reaffirmed its commitment to peace, communal harmony, and the rule of law.
The Western Sümi Hoho (WSH) and Western Sümi Kukami Hoho (WSKH) described the blast as a cowardly and heinous act aimed at disrupting the peace of the region. The organisations expressed condolences to the family of Havildar Mohd. Iqbal, wished the injured a full recovery, and appealed to law enforcement agencies to conduct a thorough investigation and bring those responsible to justice. They also urged citizens and civil society organisations to remain united against violence.
The Chakhroma Public Organisation (CPO) condemned the suspected IED blast, stating that such violence has no place in society. It urged authorities to identify and apprehend the perpetrators and ensure they were brought to justice. The organisation also offered its cooperation to the authorities and reiterated that peace, harmony, and mutual understanding were essential for lasting progress.
The Chümoukedima 'A' Village Council condemned the blast within its jurisdiction. The council expressed regret over the loss of life and injuries, urged authorities to conduct a swift investigation, reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining law and order, and appealed to residents to remain calm and cooperate with the authorities.
The Aqahuto Tokukujo Kukami Kuqhakulu (ATKK) also condemned the blast, describing it as a violent act that has no place in society. It urged law enforcement agencies to take prompt action against those responsible under the relevant provisions of law and reiterated its support for peace, dialogue, and progress.
