Dimapur, Aug. 21 (EMN): Nagaland GBs’ Federation (NGBF), Western Sümi Totimi Hoho (WSTH) and Dimapur District GBs’ Association (DDGBA) have expressed concern over the recent factional clashes in which one senior functionary of NSCN (IM) Maj. Toishe was killed at his residence on August 12 and the subsequent life attempt on NSCN (R) UT-I supervisor and defence kilonser Khekato Kinny at his residence on August 20.
NGBF has strongly condemned such sadistic act regardless of public appeals for peace and reconciliation. The federation believed that Naga political leaders of any organisation or group understood the gravity of the Naga people’s desire for peace at this juncture.
While stating that many organisations have expressed opinions regarding the ongoing peace negotiation with Government of India and praying hard for a new dawn of the day where Nagas could life a peaceful and progressive life, the federation statement issued jointly by its president Shahlem Konyak and the general secretary Shikuto Zalipu have termed its “unfortunate and painful” that the people’s sentiments are not considered or respected.
The federation earnestly appealed to all Naga political parties to shun violence and strive for peace and joined hands together and march towards the era of peace and progress.
In a related statement WSTH strongly condemned the recent impetuous behaviour amongst the factions in Dimapur where ‘homes are turned into a war field’ whereby a father and a husband is mercilessly killed in front of his children and wife.
The Hoho condemned the activity of shooting and killings in public domain thus putting the lives of public at risk.
“We, as ‘mothers and women of society’ have always stood for peace and harmony and oppose these incidents of animus. At the time when all the Nagas are hoping and yearning for peace and harmony among different sections of society and groups and when the Naga political negotiation is at the advance level these kind of behaviour is very much uncalled for,” WSTH president Jolly Zhimomi and the general secretary Holi Chophy stated in a joint release.
The Hoho asked ‘why’ and ‘who’ would take care of the widows and children whose husband and father was killed because of hatred and narrow mindedness. It urged upon the competent authority to look into this matters and take steps to curb those kind of criminal activities and protect the citizens of the state and ensure that no such incidents take place in future.
Meanwhile, DDGBA too has vehemently condemned the recent incidents of killing and shooting amongst the cadres of various factions in Dimapur.
“No matter what may be the reason behind it, such action does not bode well at the time when Nagas are yearning for peace and when the NPGs and GOI are in talks to bring out a permanent peace and political solution for the Nagas,” said DDGBA president Khehovi Chophi and the information secretary R Changkum in a joint statement.
DDGBA appealed to all armed groups to immediately restrain from factional and fratricidal killing once and for all. It further appealed to all NGOs/ CSOs to condemn any group(s) trying to disturb the hard earned peace.
