DIMAPUR — The Dimapur Naga Students’ Union, New Market Area Panchayat Kohima, All Sümi Students’ Union, and Zunheboto Range Students’ Union have expressed support for the Nagaland RMSA 2016 Batch Teachers Association in their demand for implementation of the prescribed pay scale as directed by the Gauhati High Court on March 16, 2022, and subsequently upheld by the Supreme Court on May 20, 2025.
Dimapur Naga Students’ Union: The Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) expressed strong discontent over the prolonged delay by the state government in implementing the prescribed pay scale for the RMSA teachers 2016 batch.
In a press statement, the union said that the directive of the Gauhati High Court and subsequently upheld by the Supreme Court of India must be respected and executed without any further delay.
“Our teachers, who were selected through a fair and competitive process, have been unwavering in their commitment to educating and mentoring students across the state. Withholding their rightful dues is a grave injustice and an affront to the dedication and service they continue to render to our society,” it said.

The DNSU urged the state government to immediately comply with the court’s ruling and clear all pending salaries and arrears without further excuses or procrastination. Any additional delay will only serve to demoralise educators and compromise the quality of education in Nagaland.
The union said that it stands in full solidarity with the RMSA teachers’ association in their rightful pursuit of justice, maintaining that supporting teachers is synonymous with investing in the future of students and the progress of the state.
It further said that it is imperative that the government act promptly, honour the rule of law, and uphold the dignity and welfare of the teaching fraternity.
New Market Area Panchayat Kohima: The New Market Area Panchayat Kohima, extending solidarity, highlighted that six RMSA teachers are currently engaged in Government High School (GHS), New Market, Kohima, teaching classes 8, 9, 10, and some lower classes.
It said that the land for the upgradation of GHS New Market, Kohima, was purchased by the community, and the new building was successfully completed in October 2017.
Since then, the GHS has recorded impressive and consistent results in the HSLC exams with pass percentages ranging from 90% to 92% and distinctions in varied subjects including Hindi and Mathematics. The past glory of achievements and high enrolment every year has placed the school under PM SHRI School.
The achievements, the panchayat said, have reposed public confidence in government schools, which was only possible through the dedication and tireless efforts of the qualified teaching faculties.
Stating that the RMSA teachers’ demands for retrospective service benefits, pay parity and arrears are undeniable as per the Supreme Court order, it said that the New Market Area Panchayat feels due recognition should be given for the service rendered by RMSA teachers towards transforming the education system.
All Sümi Students' Union: The Office of the All Sümi Students' Union (SKK), expressing its full support for the Nagaland RMSA teachers, said that those recruited through a proper conduct of exams have a genuine demand for the implementation of the prescribed pay scale.
Stating that it is imperative these teachers receive the financial recognition they deserve for their dedicated service in shaping the students of Nagaland, the SKK noted that without the appropriate pay, there could be significant problems not only for the teachers but also for the students they serve.
The SKK therefore urged the government to take this issue seriously and immediately address the implementation of the pay scale as directed by the court, adding that the government should ensure that the teachers do not need to take the matter to the streets demanding justice.
“The dedication and service rendered by the teachers in shaping the future of students should be duly recognised and valued. The efforts and investments made by these teachers towards shaping students’ futures and knowledge should not go unnoticed or unrewarded,” it concluded.
Zunheboto Range Students’ Union: The Zunheboto Range Students’ Union, sharing similar views, said that they have a genuine and legitimate demand for justice. These teachers, who have dedicated themselves to shaping the lives and futures of countless students in Nagaland, deserve to be recognised with proper financial remuneration.
ZRSU said that it firmly believes that without fair pay, the quality of education will suffer, directly affecting thousands of students across the state.
The union called upon the government of Nagaland to take immediate and serious steps towards implementing the court’s order without delay, stating that teachers should not be forced to protest on the streets for what is rightfully theirs.
It went on to say that the dedication and sacrifice of teachers in building society and guiding the younger generation must never be undervalued.
“The government must act responsibly and uphold justice to safeguard both the rights of teachers and the future of students. Education is the backbone of society, and justice for teachers is justice for students. Paying teachers fairly is not charity, but it is justice,” it said.
