KOHIMA — Nagaland on Wednesday joined the
nationwide emergency major mock drill—Operation Abhyaas—to enhance emergency
preparedness in civil defence.
At the state capital, Kohima, Nagaland Civil Secretariat
area was the operation area, with Capital Convention Centre as the staging
area, while the incident site was at Nagaland Public Service Commission (NPSC).
The Directorate of Social Welfare was identified as a temporary hospital, and
the demilitarised zone was located at the Directorate of Higher Education.

Speaking to media persons, Henok Buchem, Deputy Commissioner
(DC) Kohima, in the presence of Superintendent of Police (SP) Kohima,
Teisovise Metha, said the mock drill was conducted as per a directive received
from the Ministry of Home Affairs.
He said that the mock drill exercise started exactly at 4
pm, involving 10 victims, with one dead and the rest of them with different
kinds of injuries.

He mentioned that the exercise involved many line
departments, civil administration, police, home guards, and medical and civil
supplies, including NCC, and also personnel from Assam Rifles, besides other
line departments.
The DC said the exercise was on how to react in a situation
when there is an airstrike. He said attempts were made to make a temporary
hospital near the incident so that injured victims were immediately shifted
there and taken care of. He added that they have also identified a
demilitarised zone or, in other words, a safe place, in case of an airstrike.
He added that the drill was successfully conducted.
