Regarding the recent issues going on in the Technical Education Department, I would like to place a few points before you for your kind perusal since I could not attend the meeting of the parent-students with the officials on July 18, 2014:
1) That, Sir, my ward took admissions in College in Shillong right after appearing AIPMT exam.
2) The AIPMT scores were released on June 7 2014 by CBSE and the Technical Education Department announced the provisional result on July 4 2014. The result is always provisional even in the past years as the Department itself is not aware of the number of seats it will receive.
3) We submitted Acceptance letter as per the requirement of the department. As the department has accepted the acceptance letter, the admission in Shillong was withdrawn by taking out all the original documents. Many of the students in the list are also in this situation having withdrawn their admissions from many different institutions.
One month has elapsed since the Department came to know about the AIPMT scores as the students submitted their score card as soon as the result was declared. Now the question on every parents mind is:
1) Why did the state choose AIPMT for deciding the State Quota (for which the state has sole control, according to MCI website) when more advanced states like Meghalaya did not?
2) Why are the students trapped in these policy matters when their only duty is to study? Even after working so hard, our Naga students are not yet on par with other students which can be clearly seen from the fact that no Naga student has ever cleared entrance examination for even regional institutes like NEIGRIHMS in the open North East category.
Unfortunate but true, this is the condition of Nagas in competitive exams clearly indicated from the fact that no one from Nagaland has been selected as IAS since 2007. We cannot blame the students alone for this misfortune and make them unnecessarily suffer because the State Quota is what is due to them and rightfully theirs.
There is no looking back now as the examination has already been conducted and results released. This year's students and their parents are victimised in this whole process. We are having sleepless nights as a result.
Believing that this issue, which is very important for us and our children, is in your competent hands, we have full faith in you. Your dynamism and your zeal to work for your people will be reinforced in the wisdom you use to handle this very important issue.
On behalf of the aggrieved parents, L. Adi.
