Dimapur, June 28 (EMN): With the number of Covid-19 cases declining in Dimapur over the last few weeks, only district hospital and Christian Institute of Health Sciences and Research (CIHSR) will now treat new Covid patients in the district.
The state nodal officer for Covid-19 in Dimapur, Y Kikheto Sema, said at a press conference held at Hotel Saramati on Monday that private hospitals in Dimapur will no longer treat Covid patients.
The official informed that there was problem regarding availability of beds and oxygen in May but they could address it with the help of private hospitals. As on June 28, there were 373 beds available in nine hospitals, excluding 110 beds at Institute of Hotel Management Dimapur (IHM).
He informed that till Sunday night, only 26 Covid patients were admitted in the hospital. He added that as of Monday, seven patients were left in the Covid Care Centre at DC complex with 387 out of the total 394 being released, while no one was admitted to Medziphema Covid Care Centre.
Sema updated that during the second wave, a total of 1736 Covid patients were admitted to hospitals in Dimapur, out of which 870 patients were at District Hospital Dimapur, 518 at CIHSR, 89 at Eden Medical Centre, 144 at Faith Hospital, 45 at Zion Hospital and Research Centre, 26 at Olive Christian Hospital and Research Centre, 29 at Nikos Hospital and Research Centre, and 15 at Metro Hospital.
He said that a total of 78,898 people have been tested for Covid-19 in Dimapur from January till June 27, wherein 37860 tests were done through RT-PCR, 10634 via TrueNat and 30404 through Rapid Antigen Test. Out of the total sample, 10670 returned positive, which is around 13.53%.
He went on to inform that the state has recorded 22,251 recoveries till Sunday (22426 as on Monday), out of which 11071 were from Dimapur which is 49.76% recovery rate. As of June 27, as many as 69 patients in the state were in hospitals and Dimapur accounted for 26 of them.
The state has 1374 Covid patients in home isolation, out of which 366 were in Dimapur (26.54%) as on Sunday.
Sema said that official order to relieve him of managing Covid-19 activities in Dimapur is not out yet but the matter had neem discussed with the chief secretary and mutually agreed as he had to attend to his official duty as Agriculture Production Commissioner (APC).
He lauded the frontline workers for working relentlessly towards the betterment of society and also acknowledged Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and Chief Secretary J Alam for having faith in him and intrusting him the responsibility of managing Covid-related activities in Dimapur district.
He maintained that last year’s experience was quite different and hectic; it was more about returnees, hospital, quarantine, Covid care Centre and home isolation, while during the second wave, they had to arrange hospital beds, oxygen and other facilities. He added that they were able to fight the pandemic due to co-operation and support from civil societies, NGOs and individuals who came forward to help reduce the pandemic to a great extent.
Urging the citizens to come forward and get vaccinated, he said no one is safe until everyone is safe.
The deputy commissioner of Dimapur, Rajesh Soundararajan, said that the pandemic situation has improved compared to last month but cautioned the public not to be complacent as there is apprehension of a third wave.
He acknowledged the nodal officer saying that his experience and guidance was a huge moral and physical support to the administration and helped control the spread of the pandemic in Dimapur.
Chief Medical officer, I Moatemjen and Commissioner of Police, Rothihu Tetseo also acknowledged the nodal officer for managing Cvoid-19 activities in Dimapur for his leadership in the fight against the pandemic.
