Dimapur, July 24 (EMN): One person was killed on the spot after he was hit by a truck at Army supply road, Signal colony on Monday. The victim was riding a motorcycle.
According to traffic police sources, the incident occurred at around 6 pm. The victim, 38-year-old Sumen Dey, was a resident of Babulal Kachari colony, located behind Signal bazaar. The body has been kept at District Hospital, Dimapur for post-mortem examination.
The driver of the truck Raju Chetri, aged 25, is in police custody at Sub-urban police station. It was reported that he had tried make escape after hitting the motorcycle rider. The incident happened right in front of some IRB personnel who were on foot patrol.
The IRB personnel chased down the truck, reportedly belonging to the Food Corporation of India (FCI), and hauled in the driver. He was later handed over to Sub-urban police station.
