Mokokchung, June 15 (EMN): A 25-year-old girl was killed and a taxi driver injured after the transport rolled down approximately 80 feet below NH 02 in Mokokchung town on Friday, according to Mokokchung's traffic authorities.
It was informed that the local taxi bearing the registration NL 02T 0919 crashed into a side railing and had rolled down deep at Tongdentsuyong ward at 10: 30 pm. The location where the accident occurred is an accident-prone area that has claimed many lives over the years.
Police identified the victim as Sentiyangla, daughter of Likoktemsu of Longpayimsen village. The driver has been identified as Mongtuba Chang, of Yoniu village in Tuensang district.
A traffic official said that Sentiyangla had taken the taxi from Alisungkum near the Tuensang road junction and was heading towards the town. A traffic police who was near the spot quickly rushed the unconscious passenger and the driver to the hospital, an official said.
A doctor at the hospital informed that the driver’s injuries were not serious but the girl received ‘a deep head injury and was bleeding internally.’ She was referred immediately to Jorhat in Assam for further treatment. However, she succumbed to the injuries while on the way, the source informed.
The Traffic police suspect the accident may have been caused by a brake failure. However facts will be established only after a ‘mechanical report’ of it, an official said.
