IMPHAL — A man was killed in a suspected bomb explosion at Singjamei in Imphal West district during the intervening night of May 14 and 15, according to sources.
The explosion occurred around 12.10 am near roadside shops at Singjamei Makha Chongtham Leikai under Singjamei Police Station. A motorcycle found at the site was also badly damaged in the blast.
The exact circumstances leading to the explosion were not immediately known. However, the incident triggered panic among local residents, who reported hearing a loud blast before discovering a body lying near the damaged motorcycle.

Preliminary and unconfirmed information suggested that the explosion may have occurred while the deceased was allegedly carrying the explosive device. Locals noted that the area is a busy marketplace and warned that the consequences could have been far more severe had the blast occurred during daytime hours.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident. The body has been shifted to the mortuary of the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) for necessary formalities, while the identity of the deceased was yet to be established at the time of filing this report.
