Diphu, Nov. 2 (EMN): One Rajib Sangma (45) of Dhelapara village under Baithalangso Police station in West Karbi Anglong district has been booked for attempt to rape a school girl in the district.
In regard to this issue, a press conference was organised by Karbi Anglong Women Justice Forum (KAWJF) at District Press Club of Karbi Anglong (DPCKA) on Nov. 2.
Addressing the press conference Beulet Beypi, President KAWJF said that on Oct. 26, 2017 afternoon one Rajib Sangma (45) of Dhelapara, Satgoan under Baithalangso Police station in West Karbi Anglong district attempted to rape one school going student while returning from school after her selection examination.
According to the report of the victim, on Oct. 26 around 12 noon, the girl was returning from school when the accused unknown and stranger to the girl followed her from behind in a bicycle.
As usual the girl was walking on her way, not known to the girl what was in store for her. The accused is said to have waited among the bushes when the girl reached the jungle side.
On seeing the girl nearing him, the man took her to the ground and forced her.
The girl who escaped from the spot somehow narrated the incident and was reported to the nearest police station.
On hearing the incident, the family members of the girl and the villagers rushed to the spot and caught the accused who was then beaten up.
The accused is said to be admitted at Dongkamukam hospital for treatment, informed the women leaders.
In this regard, on 26 Oct. 2017, a case has been registered at Baithalangso Police station, informed the women leaders during the press conference.
The women organisation as well as the victim’s family has demanded ‘hang to death’ as capital punishment for the crime. The organisations voiced out they will not be silent until their demands are fulfilled. Inorder to stop rape cases in the society such punishments should be given, cried the villagers.
The women organisation further requested all the parents to take care of their children especially age between 9-19 years inroder to stay away from such unwelcoming incidents.
The women organisations of Karbi Anglong condemned the heinous act of the Rajib Sangma.
