DIMAPUR — Dimapur Police have apprehended a person in possession of photocopied Indian currency notes and registered a case at East Police Station following reports on local YouTube news channels.

According to a police update on Tuesday, the recovered notes were printed copies of INR 500 denominations, which were being used to commit fraud.

The accused allegedly lured victims by initially handing them three to five genuine notes under the pretext of supplying counterfeit currency. Once convinced, the victims were induced to invest larger sums with the promise of receiving double the amount.

Police said that bundles containing fake notes were then delivered in opaque packets, with instructions to open them only after two or more days on the pretext of a “chemical process,” which, according to the accused, would alter the quality of notes. By the time the victims discovered the deception, the accused had absconded.

The police identified the arrested individual as Kitoshi alias Lituna alias Linokali, who is also wanted in two separate cheating cases lodged at Niuland and Diphupar police stations. Authorities suspect her involvement in multiple cheating cases and urged victims to approach the police.

Dimapur Police further cautioned the public not to be misled by reports being circulated in various media platforms, and clarified that the “allegations and counter-allegations presently in circulation are largely based on misleading statements made by the arrested accused.”

The case is being investigated by a Special Investigation Team (SIT), with efforts underway to trace and book all those involved, it added.
